Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Remote Litigation Paralegal to support a California-based attorney whose practice includes probate litigation, trust and estate disputes, and related civil litigation matters.
The ideal candidate will have substantial, hands-on experience in litigation discovery, particularly preparing, propounding, responding to, and managing written discovery. The candidate should understand how discovery fits into an active litigation strategy and be comfortable handling discovery from preparation through responses, document review, follow-up, and potential disputes.
Experience with probate and trust litigation is required, as the role will involve supporting contested matters involving estates, trusts, beneficiaries, fiduciaries, and related parties.
Key Responsibilities
1. Probate & Trust Litigation

Provide paralegal support for probate litigation, trust disputes, and contested estate matters.

Assist with litigation involving beneficiaries, trustees, executors, fiduciaries, heirs, and other interested parties.

Prepare and organize documents, evidence, correspondence, and pleadings related to contested probate and trust matters.

Assist with case preparation involving disputes over estates, trusts, fiduciary duties, distributions, property, and related claims.

Maintain organized case files and track deadlines throughout the litigation process.
2. Discovery

Prepare, propound, and respond to written discovery in probate and civil litigation matters.

Responses and objections to written discovery

Supplemental discovery

Meet-and-confer correspondence

Discovery-related motions and supporting materials

Handle party discovery from preparation through responses and follow-up.

Prepare, issue, and manage subpoenas, including subpoenas for documents and records from third parties.

Review and organize documents produced through discovery.

Analyze discovery responses and identify incomplete, evasive, inconsistent, or deficient responses.
-
Assist with preparing deficiency letters and discovery-related meet-and-confer communications.

Track discovery deadlines, response dates, extensions, and outstanding obligations.
-
Maintain comprehensive and organized discovery files.
3. Investigation & Legal Research

Conduct online factual investigations in support of active litigation and probate matters.

Research publicly available information concerning parties, beneficiaries, witnesses, businesses, properties, and other relevant individuals or entities.

Search court records, property records, corporate/business information, social media, and other publicly available sources.

Locate and organize information that may be relevant to discovery, case strategy, or witness preparation.

Prepare concise investigative summaries and supporting documentation for attorney review.

Conduct legal and factual research as directed by the attorney.
4. General Litigation Support

Assist with pleadings, motions, declarations, exhibits, and other litigation documents.

Prepare case chronologies, document summaries, witness summaries, and litigation binders.

Assist with deposition preparation and organization of deposition materials.

Organize evidence and supporting documentation for hearings and trial preparation.

Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, courts, record custodians, and other third parties as directed.

Monitor case deadlines and maintain accurate litigation calendars.

Proactively identify missing information, upcoming deadlines, and issues requiring attorney attention.
Qualifications

3+ years of hands-on litigation paralegal experience.

Strong experience specifically with civil litigation discovery.

Demonstrated experience preparing, propounding, and responding to:

Probate, trust, or estate litigation experience is required.

Understanding of the litigation process and how discovery supports overall case strategy.

Experience with discovery deadlines, meet-and-confer processes, and discovery disputes.

Strong online research and investigative skills.

Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities.

Ability to manage multiple cases, discovery requests, and deadlines simultaneously.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and legal document/case management systems.
