About the Role
You’ll support a California-based employment defense practice by providing high-quality legal, administrative, and research assistance. This role is ideal for someone who is sharp, detail-oriented, communicative, and genuinely enthusiastic about the law. You’ll help keep cases moving, clients informed, and the attorney operating at peak efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Case Support & File Management — Maintain organized digital case files; track deadlines, hearings, and discovery obligations; prepare case summaries and timelines.
- Legal Research — Conduct research on California employment law issues, including wage and hour, discrimination, retaliation, and compliance topics; prepare concise research memos.
- Drafting & Document Preparation — Assist in drafting correspondence, discovery responses, meet and confer letters, client updates, and initial drafts of pleadings or declarations.
- Client Communication Support — Help prepare client questionnaires, gather documents, schedule meetings, and maintain clear, professional communication.
- Administrative & Operational Support — Calendar management, task tracking, workflow coordination, and ensuring all case-related activities stay on schedule.
- Quality Control — Proofread documents for accuracy, clarity, and compliance with California court rules and formatting requirements.
Qualifications
- Experience: 5+ years as a paralegal or legal assistant (employment law experience is a plus but not required).
- Education: Attorney or Paralegal certificate or relevant legal studies preferred.
- Skills:
- Exceptional written and verbal English communication
- Strong legal research ability

- Comfort with technology, cloud?based systems, and document management
- Tools: Clio, Microsoft Office, and PDF editing tools
- Schedule: US Pacific office hours, 40 hours per week
