We are seeking a Business Office Manager (BOM).
The Business Office Manager is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of census and Medicare tracking, regardless of delegation.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Census Management:
The BOM is ultimately responsible for the census, even when another team member completes it in their absence. The BOM must review and verify accuracy on both the census sheet and in NTT. -
Medicare Day Tracking:
Tracking Medicare days follows the same accountability as the census. Regardless of who performs the tracking, the BOM is responsible for ensuring accuracy.
The BOM must coordinate with Rehab and MDS at least weekly to verify Medicare days utilized. Rehab and MDS meet weekly for PPS discussions, and the BOM should provide up-to-date Medicare day tracking to ensure alignment.
Please note that an End of Medicare PPS must be submitted whether or not the resident discharges from the facility. (Attached: Medicare End of Stay algorithm and BOM requirements.) -
Medicare Short Stay Assessments:
With the exception of Medicare Short Stay Assessments (criteria attached), reimbursement is not provided for the discharge date.
Prior to changing a resident’s census from Medicare to Medi-Cal with Part B, the BOM must coordinate with Rehab and MDS to determine eligibility for a Medicare Short Stay Assessment. In many cases, this allows capture of a RUG score, resulting in higher reimbursement than Medi-Cal/Part B. -
Month-End Census Reporting:
The final month-end census must be submitted to ancillary providers on the first day of the following month.
A draft month-end census should be sent on the last day of the month to allow ancillary providers to begin charge calculations and ensure a timely triple check.
